Hi All, particularly those in Oz,
Just thought I would show the prices for the bits and pieces for my venture so far to give others interested in having a go an idea of costs. All prices shown include GST. Items from Reece Plumbing Supplies at Nerang on the Gold Coast (unfortunately I don't have a trade account).
50mm copper tube $32.85 per mtr
6mm copper tubing 4.31 per mtr
50mm tube brass male bush 3.56 ea
50mm tube brass female bush 7.98 ea
50mm End Cap copper 9.33 ea
50mm junction 45degree 22.31 ea
Still to get a needle valve but am on the way to making my still.
Cheers,
OldStormy

6mm tube
Hi Gonzo,
I got mine at Reece - Nerang Store. They were happy to sell it by the metre, same for the 50mm tube - by the metre. See my original pricings - about $4 per metrte.

guys try a couple of visits to your local scrap metal yard..
you can pick up:
Coper Tube, up to 4" regularly somtimes 6" etc
Coper sheet
Fiting elbows joiners etc
Unions gas and dairy.
varios taps and Valves
Boilers, Pots etc..
and all above in stainless as well
another place to try is look in your local phonebook for a comercial airconditioner or refrigiration repairer.. lots of copper bits there as well talk to a guy in there workshop..

so if anyone in aussie is interested in some 6mm for coiling pm me.
Gonzo.

needle valve
Hi Guest,
Reece Sydney - miserable bathplugs. If you need to coil a second one you will have plenty of tubing on hand.
The 'junk' dealers on the Gold Coast don't have much in the way of copper anything.
What model needle valve did you get? I intend to get mine tomorrow of Wednesday and would like to be able to cross reference the price to them.
Cheers,
OldStormy

Hi all
Not to be rude on this, but I believe that you guys are doing the good old Aussie thing of making a true blue still. I wish I had the patience to do this but I don’t. I ended up buying a complete unit (and that’s everything and 4 washes) for $700. ($100 was for the post)
After the 3rd wash that I cooked off, I have just broken even (if I had to buy that amount of spirits.)
But I do take my hat off to you guys out there tinkering in the shed for that perfect white spirit.

Hello guest.
So far for all the equipment needed, solder, flux, butane torch, gloves goggles. A complete reflux off-head still(minus one boiler) and a 30L carboy, thermometer, hydrometer, alcometer etc.
EDIT* It's cost me about $350 AUD.
If I had managed to get more parts from the scrap heap, and been able to get the 6mm in less then 30m I could of dropped that price even more.
Gonzo
Making it myself
Hi Guest,
I could have bought one but I like to do things myself and in so doing experiment a little. Much more satisfaction to have something you made yourself work as well as, or better then, a bought one. By the time I have finished (version 1!!!) it will have cost me around $300 not counting the cost of a map gas torch which I will use for other jobs as well. The difference between $300 and $700 will buy a lot of sugar.
Cheers,
OldStormy
