Bouilleur de cru in France...

Post by Bujapat »

Hello guys,
Some infos about and old custom in France... Sure, it's about distillation!
In France, the « bouilleur de cru » rides from place to place with his still on a trailer to distill farmer’s fruits (apples, pears, apricots…).
Farmers have made the fermentation during fall, and wait for « the man » he comes during winter.
It’s legal, it’s an old custom.
I had the chance to see that last winter in Morzine (Alpine mountains, France).
I wrote a little article and puted some pictures on my blog, if interested let go to

I'm french speaking!

Boiler : 50 L (13 gal) beer keg, gas heated.

Potstill : 40 cm (15 inches) column 54 mm (2 inches) diameter without packing.

I've heard of it already, but I've never seen it yet, thank you for this oppurtunity.
I've even heard of stills situated at a central place in small rural villages, the one who distilles has to do everyting himselve, and leaves the amount of money he wants to give.

It's usually made from fruit they can't sell anymore

Very interesting. I too have never heard of such a thing. Thanks for the pics.
Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat all day and drink beer.
