reflux /pot stills

hey yall, newbie here , i have read & reread tonys stie on building a reflux still from a beer keg & that is what i plan to make, my question is , can it ( the reflux still) be transforms to a pot still just by taking the packing from the reflux colum ? please be gentel as i am a virgin whiskey maker LMAO
