subject: Using "corn flakes" or "KIX" cereals...
Does anyone have any experience using breakfast cereals such as KIX or corn flakes for a mash?
I am curious as to how well it would work, and how it would taste. I want to try it, but, if anyone here has already, and it doesn't work well, I don't want to waste my time.
I say Kix because It contains the following...
Corn meal, Whole grain oats(includes oat bran), Sugar, corn starch, wheat starch.
Also contains these vitamins&minerals...
vit. a,c,d,b6,b12,
thiamin,
riboflavin,
niacin,
folic acid,
iron.

A friend of mine works at a warehouse that throws this stuff away by the truckload. I used to donate tons of it to homeless shelters. I wonder if I would have to use Amylase or something, or if it would just ferment with the help of yeast and extra sugar?

corn flakes is partially converted and has malt in it already, a little amylase couldn't hurt it though.
this sounds like a job for the seething mass of porrage method.

Hey, a whole new line of breakfast product could develop!
"A free bottle in every packet"
" Pour this on your cornflakes and give your day a lift"
"Pour it on and give your day a KIX start"
Or is all this a bit too flaky?
Cheers (and sorry).

I have been intrigued by the breakfast cereal recipe since I read about it on Tony's site, but I never tried it because I use internal elements and not propane. I just envisioned one hell of a mess trying to filter out a cornmeal slurry before going into the boiler.
Good things may come to those who wait. But only the things left by those who hustle.
