Just paid $36 for a 2 inch copper T and that was with 20% off retail. What a rip off

yeah, I was also amazed. Daylight robbery if you asked me. I payed 32 euro for a 54 mm T-piece (54-42-54). I wanted two but only bought one after a lot of hesitation.

With a lot of patience I managed to solder a 42 mm copper tube straight onto a 54 mm tube. Took me a whole day though ........

according to the shop, a meter 54 mm copper tube would cost 18 euro per meter ......... X(

Have you checked out any local metal recycling stores? I bought a 10 gallon stainless steel cornelius keg for a boiler at the recyclers. It turns out that they resell all their metal stock for the same price. In other words, any peice of stainless steel I wanted, ie the keg, would cost me $1.30/lb. The keg worked out to be $15, which I thought was a pretty good deal. You can do the same thing with any copper piping there as well. It does require a little more time picking through the junk, but you can save a bundle.

be carefull when buying in those places you never know what the pipes have been used for, they may contain some traces of poisonous stuff
