flour and water on a test run of a pot still

Post by PacNW79193 »

I've read that lots of people use a flour and water paste to seal up their still, like around the top of it. Which sounds OK when doing the actual stilling, since the temperatures are low (lower than the boiling point of water at least. But after we build our still, we are going to do a test run with water, to make sure that it is constructed properly, and what I was wondering was, will the flour and water paste work when distilling water in a test run? Or will the flour and water paste fall apart with water, but not alcohol? Only making sure so that I get an accurate assessment of the safety of my device.
