I have read about the 1000oaks horror stories, I know gibbs bros. are great. Didnt know if anyone has had experience with Old World Barrels.
Thanks

barrels

Those barrels look to much like the 1000 oak barrels, priced the same too. Don't look like you have a choice of toasted or charred neither. Probably some more mexican barrels with paint and wax in them. Good for decoration only most likely.

I can't be positive. But, several months ago I ordered one from 1000 oaks ( should have read this site before) I could almost swear my keg shipped from the same city as old world barrels.
Maybe same company?
BTW, I have some brandy in the 1000 oaks keg I distilled from some extra wine I had from last years crush. It took 3 weeks and several runs of boiling water to get it to seal. Then 1 week of TSP soaking, and 1 week of citric acid soaking. I'll make a post in a couple of months on the outcome.
DBM is correct they seem they are more for show than serious ageing.

Their barrels look like they have varnish on the outside??? If so they wouldn't breathe right would they??
Never follow good whiskey with water, unless you're out of good whiskey!!!

My 1000 oaks was varnished.
Would probably look good on the counter or just storage if you clean well. I checked mine this weekend. It's starting to color. But, I think it will be a while before it's drinkable...If it is!
I wouldn't waste my time with the cheap ones. I've got a Gibbs 2g I'm waiting to get enough to fill. It seems top quality.
