I drove thru my local beer barn to pick up a few beers on my way home from work yesterday and noticed an almost brand new keg sitting in the stack of emptys the had off to the side, i asked the guy working if they sold thoes empty kegs. he said yea there 20 bucks. so i got out and checked out there stock and ended up buying one. i guess coors kegs bow out in the center like a wooden barrel. there was also a rubber covered keg that was all black and was pretty neat lookin. so i left with a clean dent free keg for 20 dollars, not after getting asked what i was gonna do with it. just like i got asked when i was buying 2" copper pipe, and just like i was asked what i needed a hydrometer that when higher that 25% alcohol.
as for getting a keg for 20 bucks.. is this a good deal?
one site a guy said he paid 22.50 at a scrap yard for one and paid by the pound. it had a left over beer in it to so he ended up over paying.

im gonna connect my 2" column i got for 10 bucks from a local pumbers scrap via a tri clamp connection directly to the top of the keg. weld a bung on the bottom for my thread in heating element. and cut around the whole radius of the keg about 2" from the top and weld a 1" wide peice of stainless around the inside edge to hold the top of the keg back on and 3 or 4 spring clips. and maybe some sort of teflon tape or silicone seal. ill post pics when its in the works but i might be a little while cause of work.
That was my idea, although i was just going to get a copper 2" union, and silver braze it to the keg, then solder the male one to the column. Hows it work for you? How do you clean it?Enlikil wrote:I used a 2 inch 316 Stainless steel UNION Arc welded to the top of a Sankey keg. Then Just Put a male threaded Connection on the end of my column.
SO i just gotta screw it in. ( i only use sugar washes so clean out is just a rinse and dump) I paid 20 bucks for my Union.
Peace.
Also...where'd you get the stainless steel union? I know a tig welder who could just weld that up for me, seems like it'd be a little stronger option.
