Distilling legally in Aus

Post by rangaz »

Does anyone know the process for aquiring licences to legally distill alcohol in Aus. How does one apply for one and are there any restrictions on minimum production and does it need to be a commercial operation?

Dont even ask - They may find out there are hobby distillers here - and we wouldn't want that.
Leave them alone and maybe they'll leave us alone.

The answer is easy, move to the East Island of Australia, it's called New Zealand :D

Did a quick google search, and came up with these links for you:

The ATO seems to be the place to start, and from a quick read, its the excise you have to pay (which requires the license) which you can get in trouble for.

http://www.ato.gov.au/businesses/pathwa ... 03_043_003" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

You could apply for an experimenters license for the purpose of distilling fuel, but other than that is seems you would have to be operating a business.

Also, contacting the Alcohol industry group at the ATO would be a good start, they should be able to give you any information.
