Do you want to set a precident and actually get software users to suggest changes to programmers. That's unheard of. You know the programmer knows what we need better than we do.
There is supposed to be a set of business analysts in between us to keep us from killing each other.
You know the programmers of free software only say, "You want it , You write it" or "If you pay us we will make it a priority"
How's that for sarcasm from a professional programmer?

Here's the official line from the FAQs
Why isn't X feature available?
This software was written by and licensed through phpBB Group. If you believe a feature needs to be added then please visit the phpbb.com website and see what the phpBB Group has to say. Please do not post feature requests to the board at phpbb.com, as the Group uses sourceforge to handle tasking of new features. Please read through the forums and see what, if any, our position may already be for features and then follow the procedure given there.
Now don't we all feel loved

Never do tomorrow what you can do today because if you like what you do today you can do it AGAIN tomorrow!
UJ, If your after suggestions for different forum software I recommend SMF. I have been using this for a while now on a few different sites without any trouble.
Support for SMF is also the best that I have come across for freely available software.
If you would like any more information about it just send me a PM.
I dont find much wrong with PHPBB, just a few little things that slow down my reading.
First example is when you hit "mark all posts read". This will take you to an "information" page and in a few seconds take you back to where you were.
What I prefer to happen to save time is to simply mark all the posts read and then take you back to the main forum.
What also happens with PHPBB is that it in time forgets what thread haven't read. This is big pain if your trying to follow a build, or a recipe etc.
I hope that made sense.

Here's a link for what Froggy is suggesting.
http://www.simplemachines.org/about/features.php
It seems to address several problems that I dislike about PHPBB.
Does it show the new, unapproved members at the bottom like PHPBB? The ones that do not provide a legitimate email address?
The ones that are including a weblink that admin forbids... Like spam, porn or illegal drugs??? Or better yet a virus or maleware?

I would rather teach a pig to sing than argue with an Idiot.
Re: well
Please UJ, if you do make a change (which I personally do not feel is needed), make sure that whatever you go to keeps all of the legacy messages and message structure. It would suck to start over with a clean message base, and have an "archive" list of the prior messages (i.e. our current board).

Mods are readily available
http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=299341" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow
This is a good solution to one of the problems such as finding the latest messages even if you logout and login again.
It is configurable to add whatever and how many intervals you want.
Another feature is that it can return topics or posts depending on the configuration. I would prefer to see posts.

It is easy to import a PHPBB database into SMF keeping all message and forum structure as it is now.
Rebel_Yell, I'm not sure what you mean by showing unapproved members at the bottom.
On my more "strict" forums, I have them set so that all signups need to be approved by a moderator. This stops bots signing up with dodgy email addresses and web links etc.

I am accustomed to seeing the newest member show at the bottom of the forum home page. This occurs regardless of the individual responding to the automated email. They can't respond since the email address they signed up under is bogus.
I am ready to make the owner change methods or DIY...
Thanks for the idea!

Oh yes, SMF does this.Rebel_Yell wrote:I am accustomed to seeing the newest member show at the bottom of the forum home page. This occurs regardless of the individual responding to the automated email. They can't respond since the email address they signed up under is bogus.

You can set up SMF so that any new signups must activate their account be the email sent to them.
As you pointed out if they provide a bogus email address they obviously wont be able to post.
