My Rig

Post by TownDrunk »

HI all. Just thought I'd post some pictures of my Rig.

Big ol pot is 32 quart. Stainless steel with a thick aluminum plate on the bottom.

Still is about 1.5 gallons. Thats from the bottom to where the cone starts.

Pump is for a small birdbath or fountain. Works great with my still.

Just ordered a new fermenter. A 9 Gallon one from eckraus. The ones with the bubbler airlock on top and a spigot at the bottom. So far I've been using food grade plastic pales.

dont take it to harshly..

i cant explain why you got 200+views and no comment you do get compliments from people here but more flames..

ive seen people here compliment a stainles saucr with a condense..

and your still is better then that, you seem to be doing evrything right its a nice all copper still.. only downfall its small, what about 7 odd Litres.

you will only get about 800ml of drinkable spirits out of it at the 60% abv with grain, so its all good..

but think of it this way you didnt get flamed for using plastic or other crap.

cheers...

well I think its generally accepted that plastic in stills is ok for cooling water and such the does not come into contact directly with any alcohol output. It is a very pretty still and entirely copper if not a little small. Did you shape and weld it yourself because I tried doing the same from scraps that were half fabricated and it didnt turn out nearly as nice.

How do you clean it? I'm guessing you pour your wash in the top where that plug is.

Thanks!

Yeah I fill it at the plug in the top. For cleaning I just pour in hot water and vinegar, shake it good, then pour it out and rinse with hot water.

I didn't make the still. I bought it from ebay. The guy who makes them usually has one or a similar one on there. Just polished up real nice. Ad says it 1.5 gallons. I usually put just a gallon in and it works fine. I only make 20L washes cuz I live in a big city and have to be able to hide everything when people come over. Kind of a pain doing the 20 liters a gallon at a time.

I'll get a bigger one some day. I want to make a pot still but I don't have the time to. Something like that Layla pot still that uncle remus made.

Reason you didn't get any replies is that a lot of people are busy over the holidays and don't want to take the time to comment on a good quality still that they can't bash. I only have a 1.5 gallon still and it suits me fine I don't have to run for 4 or 5 hrs waiting for a run to finish. Looks good
