chemical reactions?

Post by TRANSPLANTED HILLBILLY »

Been meanin to ask this for awhile, and when I was drainin a year old barrel tonight it reminded me of these questions. Maybe some of you chemical guys can answer them.

When I rinse out a bottle that has contained spirits, it foams like mad. Now, Im talkin bout store bought that friend have given me, or a bottle that ive had my makins in. Why the foam up?

#2When I diluted my high proof, the temp rises. This happens when i have water and spirit setting side by side for days and the dilute by 20%. Ive never checked them individually before mixing but when i check to verify final proof the temp has risen by around 2 to 3 deg C. Once again why?

Neither of these cause me to lose sleep, but i do wonder what causes it.

Now an observation I do understand. The earlier mentioned barrel project yeilded me 22proof higher than when i put it up 8) , course the volume was a bit lower. I had read about this and it held true.
If it was easy everybody would do it.
