Bug Juice!, or mash rather...

Post by Moonshine_Mike »

I was preparing a dextrose sugar wash to make me some more of pothead's delicious strawberry pantry dropper, and i siphoned it off to a secondary carboy to let it clear a little more outside, well the stopper blew out and i got a nice batch of dead nats and a spider or two floating on the top. I took a cheesecloth and strained all the bugs off, and set it inside in a SS milk can (all i had at the moment).

Question:
Is it a good idea to run it or has it been contaminated and should be thrown away?

old timers used to ferment in the open, outside. removing bugs was just part of the practice. just be glad no rodents found their way in there.

this isn't beer, you won't have it sitting around in secondary fermentation long enough to spoil, and you aren't going to notice some off-flavor if everything isn't quite 100% perfect.

remove the bugs from your wash and check all our outlet/inlet holes for wasp nests; standard fare for old time shiners.
