Tell ya that Photobucket cookie doesn't like my Opera browser...Had a hell of a time wanting to show of my new caps, wouldn't let me copy an image, had to open IE

Got it in the end anyway...
Here is three types of PunkinMandarin Rum;
White
Light
and Dark

Just love the look the shrinky capsules give it, thanks again guys

my gear dosnt stay in bottles long enough to warrant a nice lable

i produce to drink.
but all i do is wright on a piece of paper what it is and date bottled.
so atleast i know what im drinking when i grab abottle.
but nice labels guys

I like to be able to give it as gifts to friends, that's why presentation is important to me.

I think that after all the work, you you should be proud of your product and bottle, label, and seal it properly. (On the other hand, I have a friend who will only use mason jars and says it is the traditional way of doing moonshine.)

I also date my bottles so I can refer back to my lab book if necessary and keep a small quantity of each back for future reference and as a quality control.

On a different subject, I like to use corked bottles because I love the noise when you "pull a cork".

yeah, i use the 'T' top type port corks in any bottles they fit and throw the caps away, i figure 30 cents a cap, 15 cents for the shrinky casule and 20 cents for the label, i've only spent as much as what the bottle of spirits cost to produce anyway

and it looks so puuurrty

I have about 5 gal. of old beeswax from cappings before my 200 hives were decimated, totally wiped out by an apple orchard spray with encapsolateded parathion. Killed every hive I had in 24 hours.\\ this was wax collected prior to that. Want to use it as a seal like Makers Mark. Add color and dip.

Would love some ideas and hints. Color? How to dip etc. Corked, or capped bottle? How good is this for very long term storage? Say many generations. What would be better?

I don't have any experience in dipping bottles, however I do make candles. If you want to color the wax, just look up a candle making supply on the net and get some wax dye. The beeswax is usually an off white to yellowish color, so just go with a color that mixes well with that.

As for the capping, I'd probably go with a cork and make sure that it's in there good and level at the top. Waxing the top of a liquor bottle is basically just for looks. It does present another barrier to letting air get in, but generally air doesn't spoil a liquor, whereas air would spoil a wine or beer.

Either way it sounds pretty cool. Get your favorite color pigment and maybe a wax stamp for the top or side with your initial or something.

Dip the bottle a bit, and it will just take doing a few to get the hang of it, and then when it starts to set up a bit, press your stamp in the top.

I've done it before. (dipping bottles in wax) I didn't make my own wax I just use old candle wax. (I like the scented ones) I think they look great. I've even just used old Jones soda bottles and even they look good. I am curently working on a stamp for my wax seals.

Makers Mark uses a polymer "wax" to dip their bottles. Regular beeswax will work but can be a bit brittle and might chip.

Oakie...I was just in West Virginia last week. Beautiful state. I drive through to go to deer camp in SW Pennsylvania and also to visit the Pa. cabin several times a year.

Yeah it really is a beautiful state especially around this time of year. One of the things I love about it though is that with a little searching you find thing that where thought to be long gone.

I remeber one time while I was little a tree fell during a storm on a friend of mines farm. The tree was huge I rember me and my friend laid down on the stump to trie and figure out how wide the tree was I remeber we wore both easaly able to fit on the stump. Of coarse we were about ten at the time so it have seemed bigger back then but it was still a massive tree. It was an old oak. We counted the rings the best we could it took forever. It had about 330 to 340 rings.

It's a shame when a tree that old goes down. We saw a lot of that when Hurricane Katrina came through here. Pity to see trees that have seen 3-5 human lifetimes pass, go down.

There's a good short vid or two on u-tube with demos on the Makers Mark dipping process, just do a search on Youtube with Makers Mark or Wax sealing or something.

I started labeling but soon tired of it. Basically, I'm a slack bastard... and proud of it.

Now I do as cannon does, but loved some of the labels other blokes use.

Hey Dutch, what type of bottles do you use? Is that bottle in the picture from old commercial spirits or did you buy it new?

I really like that size/shape/design. Kindda looks similar to Pampero Anniversario Rum from Venezuela....

It'd be great if you could let me know. As well as everyone else--if ya find a supplier for some cool bottles, spread the joy.

Here in the future I will be trying to work with a local pottery place (one of the largest in N. America) to have some 'old moonshine' style jugs made that are legit to store/drink from. Maybe if I can have them make a few, I could get them distributed to folks on here and elsewhere and we could appreciate some moonshine in the traditional jug w/o worry of lead in the glaze. I'll do my best.

OldMan P............I bought all of those 375ml "flat flask" bottles from Brewhaus. They have several varieties of bottles. It's the only place I found that has that style that will sell in small quantities.

Zanesville Pottery has had new jugs in the past. I think they would be good sellers if they made them from crockery, and not just a ceramic replica.

The ceramic jugs that I recently bought are just that....a ceramic container with the top portion glazed brown and the lower portion glazed tan. They look like the originals from a slight distance but they're just not the same (I got them from Zanesville). The bottom portion is just as thin as the top and the whole thing is relatively light weight ceramic.

The original crockery jugs are much heavier "stone ware" for the bottom portion of the container and for the one I have left, the top portion is heavy ceramic also.

I'd love to have some good crockery jugs that are safe and lead free.

I talked to the local pottery plant back home and they said they had 2 kinds they already make--gallon size and i think 1/2 gallon size. I haven't had a chance to get over there and check 'em out but the rep I talked to said they are good to go for alcohol. I asked him and he said people use 'em for that as well as puttin' wine in them.

Thought about buyin' quite a few and sell 'em on here. Not looking to make a great profit but figured if I can buy in bulk then can save on price for all of us.

I'll try to acquire a couple in the near future and get some pictures and facts about them up on the forum here. If so, I'll start a new thread and give details.

My new one is back from the printers (she looovves ujsm).

I'll enter it as a picture rather than an adobe as i don't want it copied. With any luck in a decade or so when i figure out how to do all the things i want to learn to do, it may become part of a 'buisness' plan

Labell reserved for non sugar spirits, pure brandies, grappa, allgrain ect...

The label is sized and shaped to resemble a buisness card, also printed on stock almost as heavy as cards (bourbon girls idea)
