Apologies for the down time
Updated from FreeBSD 6.x to 7.x, took a while to rebuild everything and get it sorted out.

I was thinking I may have been the famous lonely "bandicoot on a burnt ridge".
So bloody hot here that my last ferment died at 40sg in spite of a coolgardie safe type cooling system. My guess is that the yeast died so I'm in the process of trying to restart the bugger. No doubt tomorrow will be another hotty so maybe I'm wasting my time.

Blanik, the 'Coolgardie safe ' only works up to a point. I have had good success sitting the fermenter in a large tub of water that comes about half way up the side of the fermenter, freezing up old plastic milk or fruit juice jugs full of water (about 2-3 litre size), and throwing one into the tub every 12 hours or so. The first day can take 3-4 jugs to get the temp down, but after that only 1-2 day to keep it below about 30C. Helps too if you insulate the outside of the tub to slow cooling loss.
This system has worked very well for me in air temps up to about 38C, in high humidity, so should work for higher temps in lower humidity.

OK hook, thanks. I'll try that if I can resuscitate the ferment today. Raining like buggry here for a change. Last week it was a tornado, this week maybe a flood.

No apology necessary UJ, in fact, my family thanks you....I spent a whole lot more time with them yesterday!

while everyone here is great and I really don't think you have too much to worry about it's a little scary to post personally identifying information in a public discussion board. This is especially true of one focused on an activity that is illegal here in the States. You never know who might wander through and punch your callsign into one of the database programs.
