I have got to say that this is the time of year when my favorite mixed drink, by far, comes into use. The classic Egg Nog! I like it with bourbon or dark rum.
Two or three fingers of spirit in a rocks glass, topped up with egg nog, a shake of cinnamon and you're set.
I've tried many recipes for homemade egg nog over the years ... and I'm usually the guy spouting off about making things from scratch ... however, in this instance I have to say that a half gallon jug of egg nog from your local dairy is better then what I have been able to do from scratch.
Cheers!

A city boy was crossing a muddy creek, when he came upon a hillbilly with a shot gun. The man with the gun demanded he take a drink from his mason jar of shine. After doing so, the city boy fell down and started drinking from the creek, when he got his breath back. The hillbilly gave him the gun and requested that he hold the gun on him and make him take a big drink too. They both agreed that the muddy water made a good chaser for the shine.

favorite mixed drink
Boy, this brings back memories.
I used to take Tang and a 40 of vodka, in a plastic container(less weight) in my back pack on 3-4 day hiking trips in the mountains of Alberta.
Happiness was getting blasted around the campfire on vodka, Tang and glacier water.
Thanks for the reminder and have a good weekend.

As a chaser of all things fish, we sometimes have to carry drinks in canoes or backpacks.mikeac wrote:Old memories? When I go climbing I take vodka and koolaid mix....Happiness is drinking after a day of climbing with a group of good friends!
It's allways 'Stones Green Ginger Wine' at 17% or the 'Stones Mac' one that's fortified with whiskey.

Although, i decanted my 'Apple Pie' maceration today...although i think it can be improved with a little tweaking, it's still looking like a front runner for the Camelback.

Corn Whiskey Mint Spritzer
This is really good, a rare drink that sits well with pure corn whiskey.
Green Mint Syrup (Monin is a good brand)
sodium free seltzer water (club soda will work too)
Corn whiskey.
Pour the soda water first, with enough syrup to green it up good, then 2 oz. of
pure corn whiskey. This is a very tidy drink, not too sweet, not too anything,
and the whiskey isn't just "there" like it seems to be with many other drinks.

Re: favorite mixed drink
If you can get it, there is a Polish fruit drink by Tymbark called Cactus Juice which is excellent mixed with neutral spirit. In the UK it is often available from Tesco in the Polish section, if the store is large enough. They do a premium cherry too which is like drinking black cherry pie filling, excellent stuff.
I'm not able to make Tequila myself sadly, because I can't get hold of the nectar here, but if I could then it would save me a fortune on mixing Reposado with bitter lemon!

Now is easily my favorite time of year for the Margarita. It makes Tequila palatable
4oz GOOD tequila, not Jose, he's for the camping trips
1-2 limes juiced (depends how you like it, I like the lime)
splash of Grand Marnier or Cointreau (enough to take off the bitter of the lime)
Drink over ice and love the evening out on the deck/patio area. Beautiful!

Re: favorite mixed drink
rum and coke, because I don't think tequila shots with salt and lemon count as a mix drink
Re: favorite mixed drink
If I drink a mix, it's usually whiskey in a cirtus soda. Used to use Quench, now have to settle for Squirt.
It is the very things that we think we know, that keep us from learning what we should know.

Re: favorite mixed drink
my neutral spirit and apple juice...
Re: favorite mixed drink
2 Oz. Rye Whisky, a couple of ice cubes, top off with Ginger Beer, and a twist of lemon. This is my daily bread. I have some Rye and Malt, I have just been waiting for the temperature to get under 100 deg. to start mashing a batch. The temperature in my garage would have killed yeast for the last month!
I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy.
Re: favorite mixed drink
I like to make these in the summer time for get togethers.
SKIPPERS
1 can frozen lemonade, dump into a large pitcher,
fill empty lemonade can with vodka (or white dog), stir to mix
3 PBR’s (or equal)
Stir gently to mix but do not reduce carbonation.
Pour over crushed ice in large tumblers.
It tends to sneak up.

Re: favorite mixed drink
wow, great thread to dig up!
favorite 'show off' drink: (for others)
fiejoa mojito. bout 100ml of rum ala pugidogs in the white, juice of a couple of feijoas, half a lime, stir, then pour into a tall glass stacked with ice, plenty of bruised mint leaves straight from the garden and lime wedges. top off with soda water, drink through a straw. Its a pretty unique drink and no one expects the hit of that much pugirum in what looks like such a girls drink (it looks pretty good all stacked up in the glass). serving them normally means a) I'm not leaving the party by myself and b) I'm probably going to need to make more rum
Favorite drink for me:
Long island ice tea. according to me its 1 part vodka, 1 part gin, 1 part white rum (tho its normally pugirum in the white for me), 1 part tequila, 2 parts 'watershed's cointreau', 1 part lime juice. shake with a crapload of ice, pour over ice, and top off with a splash of coke. don't judge it til you try it doesn't leave many standing....
now, if only I could make tequila in NZ....
Cheers,
KS

Re: favorite mixed drink
I'm a fan of all things with ETOH, but my original contribution to the discussion is one of my favorites: Silver tequila and tonic water over ice with a lime wedge.
Before this I really only drank tequila as a shot, and too many in a row at that. Too many shots of tequila is a good way to ruin it forever for me, but a double pour of tequila in a rocks glass topped up with tonic water and a lime wedge was redemption in a chilly glass.
