Thermometer on Pot Still

Thermometer on Pot Still
I know that almost everyones immediate thought is that one does not need a thermometer on a pot still. However, I would like too. I have read for a day now, on this forum, and I am yet to find a suitable resource/answer on how to attach a thermometer to the top of my still. i.e-what type of thermometer? How to seal the thermo? cork? rubber grommet? gum bunk?

I use a cork for mine. Just drill a hole through the middle the size of the thermo and stick it in. Just be sure that the thermometer probe is wet before ya try.
If ya can, getting one that can read in Celsius will help ya out a bunch. Most of the stillhead temps that people post here are in Celsius. I know, if you're in the states it seems kinda awkward to read it in *C, but it'll save a lot of confusion. I still use Fahrenheit for mashing, though.

Mine fortunately came with a thermometer. With my limited experience,I would highly recommend one.
On two occasions, the temp went from 50C to 90C in a matter of minutes. So, I will cut down the heat at 50 from now on and let it slowly reach distilling temps. I don't know how the old timers did it, but I sure am glad I have mine.
Just my 2 cents worth
Cheers

I guess when it starts spitting out distillate, lower the temp and keep the rest,of course until it starts smelling like that the the girl you picked up you don't want to talk about
