I was just thinking of making a parrot beak for myself but on many of the photos I see posted it looks like there is s tube inside of a tube that holds your alcholmeter. What does that do and how long is it suppose to be? Are there any existing plans for one out there?
basically it is just a tube fed forum bottom overflows top , pipe reducer
catches overflow your hydrometer jest sits in it i used 3/4 pipe 11"
1 peace e 3/8 x12" ,1 Peace 3/8x10" , 1- 3/4 pipe cap 1 -3/8 L ,1-3/8 T
1-3/4-to 1" pipe reducer
Thanks for the parts list Duderhead. That helps me a lot. I am still confused with that center pipe that the hydrometer sits in. Is that fixed or soldered in there somehow or is it just sitting in there free? I wish I could see inside one of them then I think I could get the point. Thanks again for the help.
I think what was confusing him was the fact that you need to file away the shoulder or stops in the overflow reducer so that the 3/4" will slide through.
Media Blasted finish, I used a 3/4" female instead of a reducer and ground the threads with a die grinder,I liked the flat sides better. The 3/4" main tube is 3/16" higher than the female collection cup, also the whole deal is apprx 10-1/2" tall

Purchased my stuff from Mile-Hi and was very happy with the price and service. It's a 2" male NPT to 2" stainless ferrule (tri-clamp) $29.99 and a 2" stainless tri-clamp $14.99 and the 2" female was from LOWES for $14.00.
Many, many thanks Blind Eye!! I have the same parts (keg, tri-lock, and threaded SS fitting. I need to get a source list together to pull together the copper threaded portion upward. For some reason, my Lowe's doesn't seem to have any 2". Any advice/hints are appreciated!!
I found them at every plumbing supply house I called but they wanted anywhere from $19.99-27.50 and I went to a LOWES near me and they didnt have crap so I tried another LOWES a little futher and Bingo they had everything including the 2" copper $145.00 for 10',Males,females, couplers etc.,got lucky this time.
Wish you all the luck, hope I could help, I think your doing it the right way with the tri-clamp you'll be happy.. Are you making a multi-still (2-piece column, boka head and pot still head) all interchangeable? curious
Thats what I figured, again you wont regret it, Im tickled every time I plan a session Its like the skys the limit, pot still, reflux column, short reflux column, etc. I would recommend this set up for all noobies, not much more work 4-5 more simple solder joints and maybe $30.00 extra, but having all is priceless
as is this having this site, Thanks All !!
