Gold & Silver $
A buddy of mine is into coin collecting, Old coins-New coins-sets you name it. He's also buying Silver and gold coins and jewelry to smelt, He resells. You should see all the people bringing in Quarters-Dimes-half dollar pieces from 1964 and back. Its got me checking my change in my pocket and coin jars. its sure worth the time to check them. I'm not sure price as of this week but Ive seen people bring in a dollar in quarters and leave with seven dollars! Any old jewelry made of Gold-Silver thats broke or just dont care bout is selling like Crazy! Canadian Gold and Silver coins are even higher. Just figured I would mention cause I know we All have a change jars round the house lol. Its Quarters-Dimes and half dollars from 1964 and back...
Keep on Keeping on...

Hope your friend is aware that smelting U.S. coins is as bad as makin' shine in the eyes of the feds.
My other hobby is prospecting, so far have only been getting a couple pennyweights a year. I know there's a pocket out there with my name on it though.

Send them to Jetzon's buddy and have him smelt them down to some sheet copper and build another still or some related apperature.Uncle Jesse wrote:never did find anything to do with my 5 gallons of pennies

Bad idea. Pre 82 (and part year 82) pennies are 95% copper and 5% zinc. I do not think you would want to use a sheet of that to build a still out of (I KNOW I would not).

Ahhh, 5% zinc. I'll give a blonde answer here and say just use 95% of the sheet.

But just using 95% would leak bad. That is a pretty big hole

Just make a smaller still, the smaller the still the smaller the hole. Right?

True, but with my luck, the hole always lands on the bottom side. If only it was 98.5% of the sheet or more. Then, the hole would be small enough, it might self seal.trthskr4 wrote:Just make a smaller still, the smaller the still the smaller the hole. Right?Husker wrote:But just using 95% would leak bad. But seriously, someone with good enough metallurgy skills could probably smelt it back out to 100% copper. And at only about $1.60 per pound, (+ 5% or a little more for loss due to zinc and worn pennies), the cost is not bad. Last time I priced, it was close to $8 to $10 per pound for .032 full sheet, and that was BEFORE shipping.
