Use copper...its easily worked, soldered, and contains no "nasties" that might leach out. A good hardware store (or plumbing contractor) will sell you copper pipe by the foot.

There are a lot of photos of parrots in the forum or the parent site to look at....use the search feature.

Here's the one I built.
1. 3/4" copper pipe, cut about 1" shorter than the length of hydrometer
2. a 1/2" x 3/4" x 1/2" T
3. 3 each 1/2" x 1/4" reducers
4. 2 ft. 1/4" Type L or M copper pipe, or 3/8" O.D. soft copper tubing
5. a 1 1/2" x 3/4" bell reducer, (grind, sand or drill out the internal stop)
6. a 1" x 1/2" bell reducer
7. 3 short pieces of 1/2" pipe
8. a 1/8" NPT to 1/4" tube needle valve

I silver soldered all the joints first pulling out the soft solder rings in the 35mm to 22mm and to 15mm reducers.I didn't have a blanking nut so drilled a hole in a copper coin and soldered this to the threaded part I hacksawed off a brass fitting. This screws onto a block of wood to keep the beak upright and steady.

all I have to do now is teach it to say "Pieces of Eight Pieces of Eight"

cheers all Danny

Hawke,

what is that horizontal pipe? Is it just soldered to the outside of the hydro tube (and the input tube) to provide support, and then used to "hold" the contraption up?

I just use a test tube like holder over the hydro tube. Works fine so far.

Looks like a vent pipe to me. I have one on both of my worms as well.

Yep, it's just a support arm. When I built it, I was also thinking of how I'm going to build my distillation station. I think I'm getting pretty close to a configuration that I can get measurements from. I've got tables, tripods, boards and buckets all scattered out across the shop at the moment. Now I just need to measure out all my critical points, starting at the boiler and working out. Looks like I will end up with a rack about 30" wide by 5 foot long that will have adjustments for pot and reflux modes
