I made a claim with paypal and they finally sent the still. I wish I would have saved the money and made my own. After the copper mesh corroded to nothing I am thinking I better have the solder checked to see if it contains led.

You think that was harsh? I would say thief, liar flim-flam man, among many other things, I ordered a still from him March 1, 2008. I've yet to see it and all I've received is empty promices and lies. He even told me on three seperate occasions that it would be shipped out any day now. Can't get him on the phone, wo't answer his emails anymore. I may have some of my brethern visit him on principal alone.

If you knew me at all Mike, you would have realized the irony in my post. But as this is you first post in here I'll not be offended.

You say that you ordered your still from these scam artists in March 2008 and still haven't received it. Seeing as you know this forum existed it's such a pity that you didn't visit here before attempting such an ill advised purchase.

As you spend more time in here you will see this message - "research as much as you can before proceeding in this craft" - so often that it will drive you to distraction. I guess the same applies regarding the purchase of a still.

The warning is here for all to see. If one doesn't do some serious research before proceeding, one can be badly 'burnt'. At worst you have learned a valuable lesson and probably won't be burnt again. There are four pages of warnings about this one topic yet you attempted to purchase from these crooked bastards.

Don't get angry at me because you failed to do the research this time. I'm on your side!!

Whoa man! I purchased my still from these guys. It took wellllll over two months. I would never buy anything from them again. I had to send the guy several harassing e-mails before I ever got a reply. I did, however, get some free stuff out of it.

i bought my still from mile hi distillery, and its good quality. all stainless, the copper mesh that came with it was real copper mesh not copper covered. i bought the small 2.5 gallon still as i am just beginning this unsmooth operation i got going. haha. I am runnin my 4th batch right now and i havent had any problems with the still yet. Nice welds, but a few leaks around the neck(only if you built a little pressure by sticking your finger on the end does it leak out). If somebody would ask i would recommend those guys. I think he said it would be about 3 weeks and i got it in about 2 if i remember. So if your lookin to buy, I would go there. I wont ever buy another one as i know how it needs to be setup now and it will be soo much easier to make one. But thats just me. i think their site is http://www.milehidistillery.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. I THINK.

just looking over stilldrinkin.com it seems that a company called the internet content rating association (www.icra.org) which is a part of the family online safety institute (www.fosi.org) have givin membership and a safety label to stilldrinkin.com. looking at their website it seems their aim is to help regulate the internet and to protect children. i guess these guys must really suck at their jobs if they let this website use their seal. i have sent them a letter of complaint as follows:-

dear sir/madam,

i would like to make a complaint about the website http://www.stilldrinkin.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow. the use of some images namely half naked women and especially a young child pictured next to a "still" is highly inappropriate and disgusting. also, checking over forums on the subject, one of which has 280 angry posts on this website, it seems that people who have ordered from this website are being ripped off by these people and have even been threatened with physical violence when they ask for their order or a refund. i am very disturbed by the fact that your organisation has given this website a label when it is so blatantly promoting illegal activity and the mistreatment of children. these sick people should be locked up just for the picture of the child alone. i would be greatful if you could reply to me and explain to me why this website is allowed to operate and why you have allowed it a label.

thank you very much

if more people complain on this site maybe they will do somthing about it.

I have also started a new thread :-

http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7853

this is a place to post your reputable suppliers and dealers. it seems to me a good way to help steer people away from these clowns is to give people alternative suppliers who are trustworthy. if i get enough posts i'll create a list of good, trusted suppliers that people can quickly and easily reference for all of their equipment. this includes tubing, fermentation equipment/yeasts,couplings and fittings as well as whole stills. i have allready had a good response from a few people and i hope this will develop into a long list of good quality suppliers.

with any luck we can put these a******s out of business

thanks guys

I have seen this thread and it is looking good.

KEEP IN MIND, that this thread (the one you are creating), is of your own, or others personal experiences. You will NOT be allowed to relate these companies to mean something like "Trusted by Home Distiller Forums" We should not have any "official" recommendations, one way or the other. However, a grouping of like minded individuals who list their good experiences with companies is just fine. Just like on this thread, people have listed their experience and feelings about the crooks that setup this stilldrinkin.com/realmccoymoonshinestills.com "company".

i agree with you completely husker, i will write a disclaimer stating that they are the personal opinions of users and not in any way endorsed by the homedistiller website/forum. the aim is to get a good list of suppliers and dealers not to be an advertisement for companies.

thanks for pointing this out husker as i hadn't even thought of that when i started this thread. i will make sure that it is known that they are only personal opinions of their experiences and it's not to be seen as official recommendations.

the only aim of the list will be to steer people away from the con artists and towards the honest businesses out there.

thanks very much and keep posting your suggestions.

i have just recieved a reply back from ICRA. it goes as follows:-

Hi:

ICRA labels are content labels placed on websites by webmasters using our free content labelling system. They are not a sign of 'family friendly' or 'safe' sites, and indeed you will find them on many very adult sites--which we like, as its those sites parents most wish to filter to keep their kids out of.

The site in question carries a label that says it has Depiction of alcohol use, so in that sense it is accurate. The label only sets out to state the content according to a list of descriptors. However, their use of the term 'This site is a member of Internet Content Rating Association' is misleading
and untrue. They simply use our labelling system.

There are many, many offensive and disturbing websites out there--but unless the content is illegal you will find they are protected by freedom of speech laws. (While the production of moonshine may be illegal in the US, I doubt if the distribution of recipes is.) FOSI does not deal with illegal material on the internet. This is done by specialist agencies that usually work closely with national police forces and Internet Service Providers to locate and remove such material, and,
where possible, to prosecute the offender(s). The international nature of the internet makes enforcement of "the law" extremely difficult. There is no "internet law" or single country whose laws and values apply universally, which is why cooperation between agencies in different countries is commonplace. The area here agreement is most easily reached however, and an area of particular concern, is child pornography. This is illegal in most countries.

If you come across material that you believe to be illegal you are encouraged to report it to authorities who can deal with is (many are listedon our Hotlines page). I couldn't find the image in question, but if it'soffensive as opposed to illegal, I'm afraid its doubtful there is anything that anyone can do about it.

regards,

Family Online Safety Institute

well, it seems they are not a member of this organisation at all. the problem is that voluntary enforcement schemes such as this can be abused and used to lure customers into a false sense of security. the organisation says it did give them a label but they are not actually a member. surely this means that the whole organisation is useless. legally speaking, it seems they are not doing anything illegal. ass***** all of em

I can vouch for the Colonel. I have corresponded with him via email and he is very helpful and a serious businessman.

As for stilldrinkin.com, I'm wondering where these people came from, they act like used car salesmen.

What absolutely astounds me is the excessive and sensationalistic language they use on the website. Nothing illegal, but it hits at the 'tabloid' level. They're smart enough to suck in the would be distiller who's jaw hangs open at these outlandish and downright dishonest claims. They are targeting those that are easily "wow'd" at the mystique of making whiskey, and they apparently get them too, at least for now.

They will eventually come to nothing, just give them time. They will be exposed, brought out into the light, and shown to be what they are, all in due time, it will happen. And we all will be right here, doing the real deal, and helping each other along, just as it has been well before these miscreants crawled out from under a six pack of Old Milwaukee Light.

Sure wish I had known about this site (homedistillers) before I sent my money to bluegrass.
After 10 weeks I have given up trying to get the still I paid for from these(this) guy.
Even though he was quick to answer before I placed the order when I had questions, once the order was placed I couldn't get any response.

I had used Paypal, but paypal would not investigate the problem because it had been more then 5 weeks since I placed the order.
I should have know this since on his website he says to wait 6 weeks before delivery (due to being backed up with orders).

Also I note that now he no longer uses paypal (probebly due to all the complaints).
I have put in a chargeback on the transaction.

Since then I have ordered a reflux still from a reputable Au manafacturer. I'm looking forward to putting it to use.
great site here. Been doing tons of reading. I'm actually glad I did do this reading since I think for what I want to do, the reflux will work out much better then the unit i had ordered from bluegrass.

Hello all, I was woed into ordering a still from stilldrinkin.com on Fri. Aug. 29. Me and my father-inlaw have been wanting to do this for quite sometime(several years). I just happened upon there web site and got geddy like a kid in a toy store. I waited until Mon. Sept. 8 to call and check on why ,The money had not been debited from my account and he said that he guessed my order got lost so I gave him the info again and i heard the card machine print the recipt. I checked my account and sure enought the money was taken out (pending) after i did that i googled them again and lower down on the page i found some nasty things about them so i called him back and assured me that everything was on the up and up and that the people they were talking about were the OLD owners. Well i went to bed and when i got up and went to work(graveyard shift) I had this horrible rock gutt feeling i was being had.I checked my checking account later that night and the charge was gone so when I got off work. I went straight to the bank and talked to them. They said he proboly did what hotels do run it through but dont bill it until later. So i called and canceled my order. But first I cancelled my debit card with the bank(ordered a new one)I told him on the phone that if he tried to run my card i would seek legal action and had talked to the bank about it. When i got done with him i went to a Real distilling web site Mile Hi distilling and ordered one from him.I guess somebody was watching out for me.

GOOD move big daddy. You just saved yourself a couple of months of headache, only to (if you are "lucky") to receive a piece of crap thing, that will give you many more months of headache, because it works like crap.

Mile Hi will set you up with a still. In my opinion, they are overpriced, but that is coming from a DIY person, who simply makes his own distillation equipment. If you want a pre-fab unit, they will provide you with a good working one, and also service you after the sale.

Ive been wanting to do this for a very long time. i feel like im 16 again going on my first solo date with an easy girl  Im definatly gonna make me some of that strawberry panty dropper.

If you want to contact the law enforcement agency responsible for such things it's the ATF. I am not sure what they would have to say about it but they are the ones who handle any criminal stuff associated with distilled spirits.

Also, I suppose you could claim mail fraud and get in touch with the Postmaster General.

Hi All

Oh Boy, am I glad I found your forum, I live in the UK and have been looking on internet to find a still , I have sent emails to Jack McCoy ( stilldrinking. com ) regarding selling and shipping a still to the UK, his reply was that he has sold and shipped many stills to the UK,I don't know if I could build a still myself as I am visualy impaired, I am new on Homedistilling so I will take a look around and find a reliable still builder who will ship to the UK.

Thats what happened for me as well. So I called my credit card company and did a chargeback. That got my money back. If you used your credit card through paypal, you may want to do the same.
