how do you like your shine?
Well people here seem to like to drink their shine a few different ways, straight, flavored, different proofs, straight, mixed, so how do you like to drink yours?
Re: how do you like your shine?
Drink what I make outta fruits into 100 proof drink it straight same with grain Liqueurs there usually 80 to 90 proof straight also.Only product I make to mix is my rum its also 100 proof and I made it to mix with coke cola.Seems to make a killer daiquiri as well.Use same rum but add spices for spiced rum.
I use a pot still.Sometimes with a thumper

Mostly straight or maybe with a little pepsi. I've been thinking for some time of keeping some white as dunder does and will do that on my next runs. Come to think about it, I think I have some white rum somewhere. Must have a look.
I don't suppose there's any need to age white shine is there??? Yairsss, I know, read tony's book.

Thanks dunder. I thought I had some white UJSM or rum hidden away somewhere but I can't find it anywhere. Another seniors moment I guess.

100 proof neat, white or aged on lightly toasted oak. In a spoon, straight off the still. (with water to cut )

I drink straight, sometimes of a few cubes... depends on what it is... Only ever mixed rums... mojitos... good hot weather drink, and I can't find anything else to do with all that mint growing out front...
Blanik, it seem to me that age improves everything I have made, white or oaked... my batches that sucked still suck, but the better stuff seems to improve over time.... Couple of months makes a world of difference. Past that, I can't remember what it tasted like anyway...

Re: how do you like your shine?
I mostly drink my UJSM at 140-160 white dog/straight up, a few very small sips after dinner or with coffee (correcto). Sometimes I water it down to about 110-125 and put it in a mason jar if I'm going to be keeping it around a while or drinking larger portions. Some of it, I put on toasted oak cubes for a week or two. I've been experimenting with different proofs for oaking but they usually end up around 120-135 for the brown stuff—It's got a nice spice/heat to it. To knock it down to 80-100 proof just gets too watery and looses a lot..to me anyway. I keep some of the lower proof around for people to try, but to be honest...they almost always prefer the stronger, more full flavored, stuff (despite the heat).
The stuff my gramps used to drink was probably around 110 proof whitedog. It has more sweetness and flavor, and actually has some vanilla notes to the smell. If I'm going to be hanging out, having a few drinks..that's what I would drink. If my gramps and his friends got ahold of 140 or better ..there was gonna be a fight in a few hours...you could set your watch by it.
I also make brandy...cooking off old/corked redwine and oaking it. That usually goes on oak around 110-120 for a couple of weeks and comes out right nice.
I drink that straight up in a brandy snifter. I drink everything straight up. No ice. No water. No mixers. That includes any kind of whiskey/scotch/brandy. I've just always liked it that way. To me, it has more smell like that. You put it on ice, or chill it down, it kills all that. But, you should drink it at whatever proof, and however, it tastes best to you and that you enjoy best.

Aged wheat whiskey: neat with a splash (which means a couple drips) in a wine glass.
Aged UJSM: same way, but sometimes mixed with 7-up.
White anything: mixed with 7-up or ginger ale.
