Dunder, our pot pie is their mince pie. Like metric measurements and imperial. Same volume, different name. Essentially I am looking for an Australian or New Zealand Pot Pie recipe. Really looking just for the filling more than anything else.
water + sugar + yeast = wine

water + flour + yeast = bread

wine + bread = two things I can make at home

All this talk of pies makes me think of memorable (barely, because it was always the last thing you ate on the wharf before you returned to your ship) pies and venues around Australia. "Harry de Wheels" in Wooloomooloo (Sydney) always had great pies and not to forget "pie floaters" in Adelaide. Pie floaters were a pie floating in a bowl of gravy and generally with a dollop of mushy peas on top.

Had many a curry pie and peas from Harrys as a teen, used to live in Wooloomooloo for a while. One of the best.

I still make pie floaters at home now and then, cook split peas till the y form a soup with a ham bone and chopped onoin, add stacks of pepper put thick peas in a bowl and plonk a pie in the top..dollop of gravy and your good to go.

look it up you will see.

You just don't let up do ya?

You've made your point six or seven times now, do i say you are wrong when you call what we know as Toamatoe Sauce, Ketchup?

No, i don't.

So maybe you can accept that different cultures have different names for things and it's just possible that the americans don't have a monopoly on correctness.
You can call what we call Fruit Mince pies, Mince Meat Pies for all i care, just don't keep correcting what i, and millions of other australians have grown up with.
But in the end there's no damn meat in em, so that ain't no damn meat pie. :P :P :P

hahahaha..this is a good thread. we got some stuff in the states would curl yer toes if ya really knew what was in it. my favorite is "potted meat" not the so called good stuff made from chicken parts...god only knows what is chicken parts  i like the one made with "partaly defatted fatty pork parts" i swear its better....lol as long as you dont find a bandade or finger nail your safe. here frozen pot pies are as close as ya"ll would get. i know a few ladies who make a chickn pie but most only have a top crust..real good tho. but pies aren't real big in these parts cept desert type sweets. any of you aussies or nz's ever had a real honest to goodness macoroni pie? in the south its a sunday dish.....i guess the best way to describe it is....home made mac and cheese except it has a curd of milk and eggs holding it together and baked till browned and edges are a little crisp

We do it all the time. Here it's called macaroni cheese.
Ifn you want to get flash you add some leftover roast chichen and mushrooms and then mix some parmesan and tasty cheese and sprinkle (heavily) over the top before you put it in the oven to brown.

My wife was in Argentina a while ago and was taken to on of the ranch's for a special lunch. Now Argentines eata lot of meat in all forms including horse. Well she was being a bit cautious and decided to start with the "calamari" (deep fried squid rings). She thought they were a bit tough and spoke to one of the waiter's about it. Guess what they were, deep fried horse guts. Only took her a bottle of wine and a few other brown coloured liquids to take the taste out of her mouth (and mind).

went to italy and had some cavallo, horse. Kinda freaky, though tasted just fine. I would say that if it tastes good with a blindfold, then who cares what it is, right?

If you ever have extra mac n' cheese leftover, take and cube some cheese and wrap the mac and cheese around it in a ball. Then bread it and fry it. Great appetizer.

Humm. Punkin, it seemed like ya were havin' a problem with an individual. Why the sweepin' racist statement? It's not cool, nor allowed here.

I haven't seen any racist statements against the Aussie culture made here by Americans, but I'm sure that if some asshole American said somethin' about "Righteous Fuckin' Austrialians" ya'll would be (correctly) up in arms. Why do ya feel it's ok for you to voice yer bigotry here?

You really need to loosen up, HOLY. It's ok for folk to call us convicts and we don't go troppo. You called me similarly about grammar nazis for christ sake. Next you'll be saying that 3,000,000 septics are a minority group. It's a shame that we all have to be on tenterhooks because of your problem.

You know punkin well enough to realize that he isn't rascist, but you use any opportunity to show how wonderfully pure you are and to exert your 'power.

Ban me if it gives you the satisfaction/power you so badly desire as a mod, but from this minute on, you are on my foes list.

All you people (what do you mean, you people) need to calm down. We all know that Dunder was having a moment, Punkin isn't racist, THM needs to settle down and Blanik can stick around. Now let's get back to the topic on hand and that is pie recipe's. If you have posted a recipe then quit posting more and if there is something new that can be added to the conversation then I am still interested in pie recipes.

I just made up some chicken and dumplings not long ago and thought about putting that mixiture into a pie for pot pie.

You're quite correct, mountain. I do apologise for my outburst, but I got wound up when firstly I was accused of bigotory, and then punkin. I just I felt that australians were being discriminated against by holy. It was my fault, I should have ignored him - I shall from now on - but we all make mistakes. My apology is sincere and let's get back to pies.
