pot still and now 800 litre cooling tank

Well Im trying a bigger cooling tank(Im not on town water )I used to use a 44 gallon drum but the water used to heat up way to much,so I had a 800 litre tank sitting around doing nothing and thought I might as well throw it in the shed and fill the sucka full of water.
I hope this will fix my cooling problem

a fishtank pump, a small oil radiator and a pedastal fan would easily handle that whole cooling job and take no space whatsoever...

check this link out to see how much room my radiator setup was - bear in mind i spent $400 on it, but it is the 'rolls royce' of radiator stuff.. my old setup only cost like 40 bux at the wreckers (motorcycle radiator / car oil radiator)..

ps that radiator (48cm wide, 12cm tall) can dissipate 1300 watts of thermal energy.. running it with that still it doesnt even get above room temperature, it is way overkill, you can get away with something about 1/4th the size easy..

That's the key right there; 1300 watts. When looking at cooling, we have to take into account the energy we put into it. That rad won't do well in a 2 hour, 3000 watt strip run, for example. I run a 50 gallon tank and pump, and the water's uncomfortably hot by the end of my strip runs.

That said, used in conjunction with a tank, that rad would help a lot. But the 200 gallon tote sure is a neat, simple way to go!

But what you really should be doing is putting it outside the shed and running a couplea pipes inside. That way it don't take any room at all in your shed.

I hope your in the tropics or have heat in your shed.I use a 55 gallon tank unless I keep a fire going it will freeze in the winter.

Well first run and didnt notice any difference in water temp from start to finish :mrgreen:Next week will be the bigest test,when I get punkins skanky hoe on the go.
I will end up putting it out side,this was just a rush job to see if it would do the job(it only takes me about 10mins to transfer the water from that tank to my 1000L one on my ute )
Im not in the tropic but I live in Australia,so no probs with it freezing up

I think you're forgetting how little ethanol is actually in your condensor at any one time.. 1300 watts of thermal energy is a *lot*, and its not directly related to the power rating of your heating element and wash size..

And of course even with any sized container it is likely to get quite hot because there is little to no active heat dissipation. Even a small radiator does a HUGE amount of work. The hotter the radiator is, the more effective it is at heat transfer, too, i've found.

This is the radiator that i used before that bigass one i bought. On the same sized still as my first pic. My resivour was 4L and it did get too hot for my liking, but that was only an 8cm*8cm radiator - it still worked quite well when i didnt do strip runs.
