How to Hide Your IP Address and Post Annonymously

Post by Pervy Sage »

This is just one way of improving your on-line security. It is a way born of being a lurker, of seeing the world as shadow agents posing as friends, trolling to capture you...which is probably bullshit here, but hey, I'm paranoid. But it's a protocol to be followed religously if you decide you really want to remain annonymous because it is possible to see where you live if you logon here.

I use this protocol if I want to logon and post here, but use another browser if I just want to read.

Before you create an account or anytime you want to logon...
use OperaTor
Opera+Tor is a small internet browser which helps to hide your IP address when you are browsing the Internet (but not doing other things like bittorrent). Google for Opera+Tor to find it.

To create an annonymous email account
Use OperaTor to logon to the site where you'll create the email account, like Yahoo, and do not use your real name or give a second email address that can tie you to it. Say you live some place where it's legal to distill, and know the postal code before you go to create the email address; like Aukland, New Zealand, has lots of IT jobs and the postal code is 1010 (Gee, that's where I live - yeah, right!).

To Post Pictures
Use Opera Tor to connect to Pirate Bay's image hosting site (http://bayimg.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow ) before you upload your pictures. Pirate Bay Images does not require you to logon, and since your IP address won't be logged when you connect to them you'll be harder to find.

Remember this is a path of darkness ~ being paranoid, but if you're gonna do it always do it. I just use Internet explorer to browse and read here, but I use OperaTor before I logon to post. This is no guarantee you won't be tracked, but it's a step up.

Uncle Pervy, on a related note, can you give me a link to a reliable, free, updating blocker of nasty spyware?

I use adaware to remove my spyware, but it's up again in a hundred instances of tracking cookies within a very short time. I only use the internet for web browsing and i'm running Opera and AVG free a/v with a firewall from Zonealarm on a vista machine. I mostly view here and a few other forums, with porn surfing and other nefarious activities kept to a minimum.

The spyware is causing my internet access to freeze and i have to reboot to get browsing again, which gets annoying.

There is no such thing as true anonymity when surfing the net....For every program that claims to make you anonymous there is another one to counter it....For example some of the "tor" servers which opra-tor connects to acting as your proxy were located in germany and were siezed by german police...Those servers have records of who connected to them before the proxy was set in place, therefor when examined your true ip will be revealed...If the man wants you bad enough you will be found....

Opera Tor is the easy way to use proxy servers, but it's just going through one proxy server at a time and only for the Opera browser window you open (but not the same proxy server twice in a row I don't think).

If one of those proxy servers is confiscated it is possible that the log files, if they go back far enough, would show my IP address and where I've gone, but I don't think that foreign agency would be sharing info with the agency who wants my but for making a bottle of hooch a month (yeah, my all grain yields are that bad).

It doesn't prevent your ISP from seeing where you go, or prevent the NSA from peeking into your traffic patterns, but it provides one layer of protection, and that is simply this: when you visit a web site your IP address is not logged there.

Here's one place to get Opera Tor: http://archetwist.com/opera/operator" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow

Punkin, when you ran spybot did you opt to install the resident protection and it's internal block list? I can't believe you'd be having problems with the setup you described - I have avast on vista and whatever it's called in vista "windows defender" and on my laptop mcafee and spybot's resident pieces (which does warn me fairly often about registry edit attempts).
I haven't had problems with spyware or adware for a couple of years now - maybe because I've learned what not to click on and how to use Taskmanager to kill IE if a website looks like they're taking control, but spybot asks me once a week if I want to allow a site to edit my registry. I'm just using windows firewall, avast or mcafee and spybot's resident protection (and a block list for utorrent) - pretty low tech

Your ISP is more likely to get you in trouble than anyone...Their log files are the ones that will be looked at more often then not...However tor may save your butt if the only logs ever looked into are the servers of the sites you visit are sitting on....If you want to be really careful and are that paranoid you would be better off to jump on someone elses wireless access point..Sniff your neighborhood find another open point and surf away. There are lots of ppl out there war driving and listing points on the net mapped out to the street address for you to "use".
