Awhile back, I got together the hardware to turn my wine fridge into a heat control environment for my fermenters.
I sort of gave up on the idea, since the fridge will only hold one vessel at a time, and now, I always have more than one bubbling away at any given moment!
So, I thought of making an over grown Ice-chest out of 2" Polystyrene, that a local home improvement store sells.
1 1/2 sheets of 2" insulation, and a roll of good Duct tape. That's it.
I have a 25 watt Brew-belt in there, which keeps the heat stable.
It's been in use for a couple of months now, and it works Perfectly! The temperature is stable, within a couple of degrees, and the price was right; about $22

Re: Fermentation Chest
Very nice!
Should work well in reverse for the Oz top enders if you can rig a cooler instead of the warmer, eg the guts of a mini fridge or 12v esky.
Here at the bottom end of Oz a warmer is needed in winter, I use a cupboard with a light bulb as a heater.

Re: Fermentation Chest
Most people in north Oz got air-con. Or you can just use high temp yeasts.
Be safe.
Be discreet.
And have fun.

Re: Fermentation Chest
some place on a beer blog I seen a "box" like that but instead of heat they stuck a air conditioner in it.

If you need to cool your wash, you might want to try this little gem:

It seems to work pretty good.

Re: Fermentation Chest
I like the chest with the pancake fan!
I'll install one in this chest in a few months, when it decides to warm up again... The air flow through the chest should help cool things down when the temps here rise.
My apartment has base-board, electric heaters, and a wall-mounted heat pump, for a/c in another room. All useless for me and my hobbies!
