GIN CLIP
I was wondering how I could hang a bag ful of botanicals in the vapour path on my pot still to make some Gin. I came across a shark line clip from my fishing days, it is like a big safety pin made from 316 stainless. I cut of the clip part leaving me with a spring with two legs, I bent and fashioned it to fit where the valve used to fit in my keg. I can now hang a bag of botanicals without major modification to my column. I have just run a batch of gin and it worked out great. The clip can now be removed and put away until I distill gin again to keep my wife happy.

Its a simple device that dosn't interfere with the coulumn, and can be fitted or removed any time, my wife says it produced the best gin ever

I was just at the store and they have things just like this made out of copper but without a loop. they are labeled as copper pipe hangers and cost about 10 cents
do you have any problems with gin flavors being left behind in the still when you run otherthings later?

Re: GIN CLIP
I will find out on the next run. But I always give the keg a good flush out with a high pressure hose after every run.

Re: GIN CLIP
I've made a bit of gin and find that some flavors can persist without a good cleaning. It'll come out in the heads of your next wash, so it's not a big deal.

Great simple idea.
I have quite a few large safety pins made from sticks of silver solder (in the fashion of longline/shark clips) to hang things like spanner sets ect on in my toolbox. could wind a couple up easy as pie from silver solder too

Re: GIN CLIP
your gin attachment looks pretty cool... not a big fan of gin myself, but I have a question for those of you who have made a lot of gin....
what do you suppose would happen if you hung a fistfull of barley in a gin attachment? would it taste interesting, or would you get a lot of really bad flavours varrying over? sort of like how apple pie is good, and turkey is good: but never again shall I cook both in an oven at the same time...

Re: GIN CLIP
The botanicals for gin a pretty pungent, I think the effect with barley would not have the same effect, but give it a try and let us know. most improvements come from experimentation.
