finding grains locally

Putting older posts here. Going to try to keep the novice forum pruned about 90 days work. The 'good' old stuff is going to be put into appropriate forums.

finding grains locally

Post by itsroger »

I live in central Ky., pretty much in driving distance of Louisville, Lexington, and Bowling green. I need to find where to buy rye and barley in say 50# bags or by the bushel. Those internet prices are out of reason, I could drive to any of those towns cheaper than ordering it online.
Anyone knowing of feed stores in the area selling these things would be greatly appreciated.

you can get malted grains online for a tad over $1 per pound most places have flat rate shipping so the cost washes out for big orders.

yes, its more expensive then in person from a grain store but it is malted and crushed. doing this yourself takes quite alot of work, time and space, especially for hundreds of pounds.

a proper grain mill will set you back ~$150 as well.

i buy malted grains online, then mix with unmalted corn etc i buy local on the cheap

LMAO. Spooky, I bet he lives in the Nantahala area. You are required to own a gun and distill or they make you move out. Eric Rudolph (1996 Olympic bomber) hid there for years (allegedly assisted by the locals).

nedscreekkennels, no offense meant...I am the biggest redneck I know, and that is saying something. So even if yer a city boy...no insult intended. :D

Ned is a serious ATV'er. :D
This is so much fun it ought to be illegal..wait..never mind.

Most horse feed that I know of is corn and oats, both will work UJSM whould be the easiest , they can be mashed but cooking is a problem
they both git thick and you still need enzymes/malt.

when strangers beg for money from you - you are there.
when no one looks you in the eye - you are there.
when the cops are the best criminals - you are there.
when you pay more money for anything/everything - you are there.
just use your nose. when it smells like an outhouse on a hot day - you are there.
(but not to worry, after a few minutes you hardly notice the smell)

nice place to visit, i guess, but wouldn't want to live there.

I'm only about 2 hours away. Haven't been in a couple months. If you like to ATV it's a blast.
