Keep in mind, it is hair loss. Not just hair on top of the head, ....... Yup, it will take a little gettin used to. For me, it is not that huge of a deal. I love her no matter what, and looks are not something I put huge value on (if you saw my solder jobs, or the way my cars look, you would guess that anyway, lol). However, for her, even though she 'thought' she was ready for it, I know that it has been a pretty big hurdle.

The biggest impact so far has been with our daughter. Up to now, it has simply been mom going to the hospital for a short stay, and mom going to radiation every day (for a while), and mom getting this chemo stuff, and mom being sick or nauseated some. Now it is 'Oh shit, mom has cancer'. It is hard to hide or ignore it now, at least in her 13yr old mentality.

Thank you goose. Yes, that is my current 'job' to do.

I have had many 'jobs' through this ordeal.

The hardest part, is I really can't break down or show the pain in front of her. That is pretty hard. I am also pretty much a loner, so don't have too many other 'guy' friends to bounce shit like that off of, so that is sort of why I have been posting to this thread. To at least let some people who I view as friends know what is up. Helps me to keep my game face on, and keeps me puttin one foot in front of the other trudging along.

You got friends and support here. Don't be afraid to use it.

Can't be much fun for your daughter. Pretty hard reality for a 13 yo to deal with. Vulnerable age.

Hang in there.

Husker--my daughter too was 13 when they took my wifes lung out. My daughter and I became very close because of it. I think it was because I took the time to talk to her more--I told her I was expecting her to help me keep my game face on. At the time I didn't know if I was gettin thru to her or not and most of the conversations were pretty one-sided. I did notice that her behavior was less confrontational with her mother. At that age my daughter and her mother used to fight like cats and dogs and I knew she was dealing with a lot of emotions that she probably didn't want to discuss with me. I did my best to keep my daughter informend of all the various medical tests and scenario's and much of the time all I got in return was a blank stare.
Years later my daughter told me it made all the difference to her--my keeping her informend.
You are walking a very lonely path my friend, life don't come with an instruction booklet. I had lots of support from friends and family and truthfully I don't know if it helped a damn bit. I know what you are going thru but that probably doesn't help you any.
I was told by a very good psychologist to keep a journal and write down all my feelings--yeah right--how's a guy supposed to find time for that. I never did. Who knows maybe it would have helped. This is probably as good a place as any if you need to vent.

I had my first treatment last Thursday. It's effing dreadful!!!!! Two days in bed trying to re-cover while hoping, wishing, even praying that I would die.

To all you men out there if you do not had regular prostate checks, DO IT NOW. If you have, keep having them. We don't hear much about male uninary tract cancer. But it's there, and it sucks!!!

I am praying for you blanik. Treatment is horrible, and I wish there was something I could do to help remove some of that nastiness of it.

How many treatments are you scheduled for?

Update.

Barb has only one more chemo session. It will be hard to get her to that one. Each time, the nausea and pains get worse and worse. She had her chemo last Thurs, and has been very sick since then, and is again vowing that this was the last time. I am glad the sickness wears off prior to the next round (3 weeks between each one), so she has a time to clear her head and realize that this terrible time is being done for the final outcome.

She did have some blood test done a couple weeks back, and it came out 'under 1' I do not know exactly what that is, but 1 is normal, no cancer seen. I am not sure if it is an antibody test, or what. But we are very hopeful for a decent outcome to all of this bad time in treatment.

What a stuff up this has been. Finally, I can move without it hurting. A massive urinary infection after BCG has meant that my treatment has been put on hold. It's not surprising when one considers what my poor bladder has been through over the last ten years, I guess. I had EVERY bad side effect possible and did it with great gusto - as has always been my effing style. Two trips to emergency later it seems that I may resume treatment next Thursday. I simply can't wait.

The really shitty part is that I'm so weak that I cant even ferment or distill. I fall over putting my boots on. Not really the way one should approach handling etho and propane. :)

Thanks for the wishes and PM's guys.

I seem to have lost a post, or maybe I didn't do it. My brain is quite fucked. Anyway give my regards to Barb Husker. She sounds like she's having a dreadful time. Reading about nausea brought back memories of Monday night lying on the dunny floor vomiting and vomiting what seemed to be wet, shredded cotton wool. :) :) It was the most bizzarre scenario I've ever experienced.

BDog,

I pray for you about every day, and hope you do well in the upcoming trials ahead of you.

Barb just emailed me a link (sorry, just a touch off topic), that is, or may be a huge break through in lung cancer. Up to this point, for lung cancer, there is no real screening method, and that is one of the reasons why it is so deadly. Most of the time, by the time ppl find it, they are beyond a cure. This research sounds hopeful for screening, and possibly much better attack methods. Might not be helpful for Barb, but she has really devoted pretty much all her time to fighting lung cancer.

You guys hang in there.

For those of you scared of a prostate exam - don't be. It's not so bad. The worst part was the fact that the doc gave me only one little tissue to clean up the 2 or 3 tubes of KY he must have dispensed in there. I even got some unexpected benefits - walking was a little easier because of the reduced butt cheek friction.
