I am making rum for a friend who likes the Bundaberg Rum Red brew, so I have been reading the other posts about red gum charcoal filtering and even adding a drop of eucalyptus oil.
Anyway I was at the supermarket examining the golden syrup when I hit upon the idea of using red gum honey.
I thought if I incorporated it at some stage it would add the flavour and possibly even a bit of smoothness? Maybe a teaspoon or two into the six or so litres of cut spirit I have soaking in oak chips? I am not sure if that might give an unwanted sweetness.
Has anyone tried this before? What do you think?
I don't know what good rum tastes like as I don't like rum myself, but I do want to give my fussy friend a good drop. I am concerned about getting it nice and smooth as well.
