high temp to start running

Post by marvdog »

i was just wondering if anyone had any ideas as to why my first run always comes out at almost 195 degrees. ive been doing this for several months and its always the same....the first run comes out at 195, the second time through is about 180degrees it all burns a good blue flame and tastes alright, of corse the second run is much stronger. ive got a 10 gallon copper pot still with a condenser arm. im around 1000 feet above sealevel. my wash is usually around 12% abv. and is a cracked corn sugar mix. i hope this is enough info that someone could tell me something.
i should probly tell you the first run i just let it run untill the stuff comming out wont burn on a spoon anymore, and when i double distill i stop it when the temp gets past 185 or so. usually if i put in 8 gallons to run through again ill get 4-5 gallons out.
i dont think its hurting anything( im not blind or anything) id just like to know why it does that
thanks
