I have a question about reusing charred Oak chips.
are you able to reuse oakchips that have been used to give flavour and colour to your product or should you just throw them out after one use?
I know that an oak barrel is usually reused 3 or 4 times, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with thier own oak chips that they have used.

that is up to you, each time you use them you will have less flavor. that some like and some don't.

Re: Reusing charred Oak Chips
you mite could reuse whisky chips for a rum, but i would think single uses from a chip. a stick or a stalv could be reused a time or two but i would think it was weak on color and flavors

Re: Reusing charred Oak Chips
Don't use chips. But I re-use my oak sticks at least twice. I find a mix of old and new sticks for rum works very well.
Best oaking result I have had so far was with a dozen used sticks in 5 litres of rum, for 2-3 months.

Thanks your your advice and experiences.
Just for clarrification, when I say "chips" I am talking about pieces that are 1.5 inches long by .5 thick by 1 inch lwide. toasted or in some cases, charred black on the BBQ.
