VM Thermometer placement

Post by dStill »

Hi there I'm making a VM still head and i was wondering about thermometer placement. My column/head is 2' and the takeoff port is 1'

here are the 3 basic placements that I've seen. I was wondering if one is better than the others, or if there is some better placement entirely.

My main concerns (that have occurred to me) are

1. only the tip of the thermometer penetrating the 1' tube.( Will that give a correct reading?)

2. drip from the reflux condenser onto the thermometer. ( obviously bad, or is it?)
