Stainless or copper scrubbies

Post by dStill »

Stainless or copper scrubbies, does it make a difference to flavor?

Has anyone tried a comparison?

That sounds like it would change the flavor. I'm getting 94% alcohol, in your opinion will it improve the taste if i switch to copper scrubbers?

Only if your wash contains sulfur compounds... Personally, I have not problems running SS scrubbers because my washes don't produce sulfur compounds, at least not to a point of being problematic...

As long as you have some copper in the build to remove sulpher, the type of scrubbers should not matter unless you have a stainless steel column, in which case copper would be better.

While we're talking about this... What is a brand of pure copper scrubbies that's commonly available and affordable?

The alcohol vapour only needs to contact copper once during the entire process, it does not matter at which stage it does it.

If you do the low wines run through a copper column or with copper scrubbers/mesh, then you can use an all stainless column and packing for the spirit run. This is the set -up I use.
Be safe.
Be discreet.
And have fun.
