I've been doing some research on this lately. The best true way to make Tequila is to get an actual blue agave heart, but this is a real pain in the ass. You pretty much have to order it from Mexico. I've spoken with Ian Chadwick who runs the website "In search of the blue agave" and he said the best blue agave nectar is the "4 copas" brand. He said many of the brands just taste like corn syrup. I haven't been able to find any "4 copas" yet and there is some talk that it may be discontinued. Another guy on this forum (I forgot his name) has some fermenting right now but has yet to distill it. He will post some results back after he makes the run.

I'm not sure how well you know Tequila. If you know it pretty well then you know the taste of blue agave. If you want to try out a blue agave nectar make sure it has a good blue agave taste to it. If it doesn't, ain't no way in hell is going to make Tequila.

This is the best I found-
Organic blue agave, produced below 118 degrees, volcanicnectar.com, global goods inc. 1-801-492-6295
I bought a 5 gal pail for $179 shipped.

I geuss it would really be classified as mezcal since it wouldnt be from blue agave. I might experiment with it since Im doing such a small batch.Nothing ventured nothing gained right?

At 180$ for 5 gal say 12lb to the gal. 6olb,, two lb will make about 1 l ,,so that pail will make about 30l,,, 180 /30= 6 so that will make it come out to 6- maybe 8$ a litre with cuts. just figures in my head.
