Going to fish store

Post by W.S.C.beachman »

I want to get an air pump and stone for my fermenter and was going to use a fish tank set up. You know a little stone with the pump connected to it. The stone usually sits under the rocks at bottom of fish tank.
Is this cool?? Will it add oxygen to my ferments???

you could use a copper pipe and drill a bunch of small holes in it .then pintch the end shut.

The one from the pet store will work, but it would be hard to sanitize and that could be a problem in some applications. Sounds like Dunder has you on the right track.

So all I have to do is have a copper tubing pinched at the submerged end and running the other side out the top of the bucket with a fish pump pumping air in to it, but sealed of course and drill a bunch of small wholes in the submerged end for the air to escape. On it like stink on sh..t!!!
One thing though, I have read that some times it can turn a wash into vinegar...some thing like that???

I only pump air into my washes for a couple of minutes. All you are doing is replacing the oxygen you drove off by the boiling.

As far a vinegar I've only had it happened a couple of times, from what I understand fruit flys carry the bacteria that causes vinegar.

aerate before pitching yeast, that is when it is needed. (15-30min.)aerating alcohol mite give you acetic acid but Iv never had it happen.

Well this specific air ration is for a UJSSM so it still has yeast in it prior to air ration. I think though if I was to air rate the backset after it cooled down but before I put it in the fermenter that would work well right..as far as for the UJSSM any ways.
