copper tea urn

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.
Pics are VERY welcome, we drool over pretty copper 8)

copper tea urn

Post by iggy »

hi this is my antique copper tea urn that I have just aquired. I was going to turn it into a pot still, I have some 28mm tube which I was going to fix a 22mm bend at a 45degree angle sloping down to a jacketed condenser. I am going to run a pale malt mash through it early next week, I also have plans to run cider thru it to make calvados (a friend of mine in brittany france does this on a large scale) the dimensions of the pot are 18" tall by15" wide it holds appprox 10.5 gallons and as you can see it is a beautiful thing.
Any comments/constuctive criticism would be appreciated, cant wait to get started!
I have done a few runs in a pressure cooker pot still that I ran some elderflower wine thru it that was really smooth. I was taking it off at 80%, I made the wine last year, is this why it is smooth?
Looking forward to chatting to y'all as I love this shit, Iggy (in the UK).
