Hello from Georgia

Post by Judd »

Hello all! I found this site a few days ago and have been reading everything I could. I am looking forward to getting into distilling. I have decided on building a pot still like Rum's. This will be my first attempt at distilling and building a still. I am well versed in brewing beer and am an all grain brewer. So I have that side and equipment covered. Thanks for all the information!

By that, do you mean Rumbull's? Very ambitious indeed.

Good luck and have fun

LWTCS Thank you! Well you were right. I got in a rush and got tired of trying to track down all of the copper. My first still looks like a ugly girl sitting at a at 2 in the morning! You might be happy with it until morning!!! I still have to make my condenser, think I am going to use a coil. I have some sitting here, so why not. I have to get my stainless steel threaded keg connector welded to my copper, and that will be it. Like I said she ain't much to look at! But it is something I can learn on and upgrade in the future.

Hey Judd, it good to have you posting.

Problem with a beautiful still is you want everybody to see your handy work... and if you decide to invite all your friends over to have a look... well, thats when the problems start.

Lucky thing is you can show us and we won't tell... fact is, most of the fellas on HD are to polite to tell you even if your still is :esurprised: Butt Ugly. A ugly still is just like an ugly women, they are all beautiful on the inside, and when they are "hot" you need to give them your undivided attention.

I will have to post a picture of the fat girl! Oh did I mention that nice and shiney copper ball. I dropped it. Dented it all to hell. I don't think there is a round spot on it now. But I learned what not to do on the next still build!!!

Judd, you make a good point. Mistakes can be great teachers.

And some maufactures do make a very thin-skined Copper float. Thin makes for poor machinability.

And as you have already learned Copper Balls don't bounce like rubber balls do.
