How much to fill fermenter

Post by Cornbread »

I have two - 7 gallon fermenter buckets (if filled to brim), so I never put over 6 gallons in them. Today I made a grain mix to ferment. It is 6 gallons. Is it best to put all 6 gallons in one fermenter or split and put 3 gallons in each.

Split em or put em in the tub with a rain coat atop em.

Certainly I'll defer to Kentucky. Never did a grain batch.

Thanks. I am not 100% sure Kentucky understood I only have 6 gallons to ferment. Thank both of you so much. I don't do grains either. I probably won't again (too expensive and too hard)...I tried sprouted corn twice & failed. This will probably be it unless it taste like Julia Roberts. LOL

I am pretty sure 6 gallons will be fine in 7 gallon fermenter. I have a 7.5 Gallon ferment bucket and I have done 6 Gallons many times. I screw the lid on and add a airlock and let er go.... works fine for me.... I do the sweetfeed wash all the time... It has always come out great for me.

yes you got room,, as far as price? I can git grain for .1o-.15$ a pound, it takes about 2X the grain as sugar , so that whould be about .30$ 2 lb
sugar is .60$ lb so I'm saving 1/2. and getting a better product (I thank) granted is more work but is not that what a hobby does?

(ya Im toooo Late also :( )

I never thought about cost of sugar. Maybe it was the hard work I didn't like. She sure is bubbling mighty pretty this mornin'. Smells so good. My wife has a "blueberry waffle" scented candle and this smell beats the heck out of that. Thanks y'all.

My 6 gallons turned into 3½ gallons. I guess the trubs sucked out the rest. As I was telling RubberDuck, I guess I should have put them in a pillowcase and squeezed or something.

Making my SPIRIT run today
