Mini Spirit Run

Post by crunchman »

I have 3.5 liters of 50-60% from a stripping run, should I add water or just run it as is ?? I was hoping to get 1 quart

of 80% when finished, this is my first "keeper" run. I'm running in a potstill btw.

Dilute to 40%ABV before re-running for a spirit run.

I'm using an electric stove, I've yet to measure the total ABV as it's in mason jars, but the still was putting out

arond 60% from an 8% wash. Not much volume to work with I guess.

Don't even consider charging your still with high proof. Especially if you're doing it in your kitchen when others are around.
Have a read of this:

Why do you care about the output ABV anyway? You'll be dilluting to drink it anyway. Also, you can keep stripping a fair bit lower than 50%, I stop at 20%.

I will dilute to at least 40%, I open doors and run fans as well. The burner I use is smaller in diameter than my boiler

and electric as well. I will fill the boiler at least half-way and re-read the safety section. It's easy enough to

get lulled into a false sense of security.

I stripped down to 20% on the first run, 30% on the second.

It's a good thing the safety issue came up, cause I was getting complacent....More reading!....Thanks folks.

Good thing you bought it up too, I just realised that still charge ABV is missing from our 'basic safety' thread....

I reckon we all need to be reminded every now and again. Complacently slowly takes over.
