Ok can someone help me? I have ten gallons of Pugis fermenting. I bought feed grade molasses for the mill, they told me it was from cane not beet. So I heated up to 180f. to kill the wild yeast in it, cleaned off the top and placed in a 5 gallon container. ( we tried adding water and heating for the horses no sediment in the bottom) In one I used miracle grow and other I used dap. They both started out @ 1.080 sg the one with miracle grow was 85f. when I pitched the yeast the other 75f. The first started bubbling in 2 hours the second not sure went to bed. 12 hours later no bubbles, I pulled a sample for the hydrometer 1.030 I don’t have ph strips so I added some sodium carbonate still nothing. I tasted it tastes like shit.
can't tell if it is sweet or not tasted to bad. Also hydo has oily, greasy film on it. Thankfully the molasses was only .17 cents a pound $8.50 for 5 gallons and the brown sugar $4.00 for 7 pounds so if it doesn’t turn out not out too much. Not sure what to do now.
