Depends on your base ingredients I recon.

Ideally you should be looking for the least amount of smell for neutural.

center hearts of a good neutral run will smell of virtually nothing after it has been aired for a while, just a little bit burney in the nose before it is cut down. If your cuts or still aren't that great, you'll probably end up with a sweet smell and taste, slightly chemical, almost like a really bad fake vanilla at times (though not quite).

Should I air out my neutrals for a few hours?

I believe airing out is a common practice. coffee filter with a rubberband to hold it on

how long it takes to "air out" will depend on what is in it, the temperature and humidity. so keep tract of it.

What is the purity of your neutral?
What are you distilling with?
IE what wash and what type of still

Just did a second distillation (pot still) with 12ltrs of 40% and now have 82-85%
The missus tells me it still smells a bit of yeast
I can't smell much at the moment..... currently got a cold

You may need to dilute to 40% and run again to git your missus to sign off.

My missus is very particular too.

my birdwatchers always has a slight sweet smell right out of the bokakob.
but after a two day air out, that goes away. then it's just a neutral smell, or lack of smell.
get a few months of age on it, it smooths out. just in a mason jar, she smooths out. not as sharp of a taste, but still a kicking alcohol smell.
i get 94%-94.5% every run. at least so far.
