Hey All

Post by Munin »

I'm a grad student at a mid-western US university.

I've been making beer and some wine for a few years, and am interested in the process by which these products might be concentrated and the apparatus by which this concentration may be achieved.

I also visited a craft distillery in Kentucky this summer and was very impressed by the quality and distinctiveness of their products, further inspiring me to try my hand at the craft.

Hi Munin
Welcome to HD.

Read...read until your eyes fall out and your about half way there..;) Seriously, read until you have a good understanding before you commit to a still design. It will make this SOOO much more enjoyable.

Thanks for the welcome.

I'm a couple weeks of reading in and I might start building soon.

At this point I am planing to build a pot still(or maybe some kind of hybrid) as my interests are more along the lines of flavorful whiskey then neutral spirits.

There seems to be much less info available on building pot sills than reflux stills, maybe this is just a reflection of the degree of complexity.

Cheers

This forum is quite the info trove. I'm very happy to have found it. The craft distiller was Corsair, sort of a random side trip that ended up being one of the most interesting parts of the trip, aside from the state's obvious natural beauty.
