My very first run

Many like to post about a first successful ferment (or first all grain mash), or first still built/bought or first good run of the still. Tell us about all of these great times here.

My very first run

Post by thump keg »

I made the median vogue today the first run witch I tossed came out 150 proof. I tempered it to 80 proof just for research purposes it was pretty and clear.
On my second run witch I intended on keeping came out 165 proof. I tempered it to 80 proof and it turned cloudy on me I must have collected to much and got some tails in it. anyway I have found out making likker is "WORK" :esurprised: :) . Should I toss the cloudy batch? Its no big deal it was less than a quart. it"s a 2.5 gal wash pot still with a thumper.

if it is just cloudy you can rerun. just add it to your next boiler full.
the first run you should discard anyway as you git the "still cleanings"
if it was a pot still you either ran to fast or took to much.

Thanks it took about 6 hrs on the second run I tried to run it slow I didn't wont to bump it. I think where I went wrong I miss collocated the ABV of my wash. I'm trying to use temp to run my rig with but that's not as easy for me as I thought it would be.

A thermometer on a pot still is as useful as a bicycle is to a fish. Do yourself a favour and do some research in the reading lounge. :)
Simple potstiller. Slow, single run.
(50 litre, propane heated pot still. Coil in bucket condenser - No thermometer, No carbon)
The Reading Lounge AND the Rules We Live By should be compulsory reading

Cumudgeon and loving it.
