Mash using grits ??

Has anyone ever used "grits" rather than cracked corn.How much wt. per gal.,yeast,etc.I'm in an apartment so anything I make is small--1 & 2 gal.If grits were used,does it get cooked,sugar???,etc.Tried distilling wine---YUCK.Calling it bad would be being kind to it.
