recycle center

Post by Kentucky shinner »

I went over to the recycle center today looking for some large copper. I did not find any 3 or 4 ", I did find some 2" and other odds and ends..What was pretty cool was I looked in the corner and there was a 2" column with a coil condenser in the top of it. The column was about 4 feet tall. I eased over and pulled it from the corner and much to my surprise it was a bokakob 2" with a copper boiler, and a electric heating element in the bottom. It appeared to be maybe 5 6 gallon. I asked the guy how much and he said he did not know if he could sell it. He called the owner and when the owner showed up and I showed him he said I can sell that. When I asked why he said it was a moonshine still. It was pretty crude, the boiler that is. The column was all I was interested it, I only wanted the pipe. I did not want the boiler because it was square and who know what kind of solder was used. I just thought it was pretty cool to spot the still. I am sure the owner figured no one would no what it was. He did tell me he would sell if for 6 bucks a pound so I am sure he did not use it.
You never know what will turn up at the recyclers.

I know what the hell is that all about? Bunch of hippies run the recycling center where I live. They're into the green, sustainable living, drum beating save the planet thing. Horse crap  They won't sell anything to me, how does it get any greener then reusing something?

I live down the street from a "drumming circle" Every once in a while I have the misfortune of having to hear a bunch of really bad drumming. I love percussion, just not theirs!! bd.

This guy said when he gets big stuff in he will set it to the side for me... Copper $6.00 per pound no matter what it is he said. I may go back and get it the bok but know I did not even weigh it.

dude! keep me in mind if you end up finding some big stuff and have some extra. i'm definitely going to have to do a bubbler next once i have the 3"T up. i was watching the modern marvels distilleries shows back to back for a few days now. going to have to go big. i'd like to do maybe a 5 or 6" flutey type thing. 4" would be ok, but i figger, might as well try and take it up a notch!

Don't forget, the bigger the column, the more vapor you need to drive it, 4"is about the practical max for mounting on a keg.

I got caught up in a drum circle once on the lost cost. Totally screwed my head up and I had to go cut down a tree to make it right.

Your paying 6 bucks a pound for copper KS? That's highway robbery.

cool. i guess i'm looking for 4" then, and the one AFTER that, when i figure out a bigger boiler, will be for the big stuff. i'll just have to draw up the stuff that i've been thinking about so i can get back to it down the road.

still might as well source the stuff, 'cause i know it's gonna happen sooner or later.

Bunch of Hippies pulled in next to me a couple of years back. Have to agree with the bad percussion!!! That and the haze of reefer that floated into my back yard every evening at about 6PM. Drumming started shortly after that....... Maybe thats why they have absolutely NO rhythm...

Ya I kind of thought that too RD. I have his price sheet, he will only pay you $2.35 a pound if you bring it in. But it is still cheaper than buying it new.
What do you have to pay? I thought $4.00 would be more reasonable. I may try to deal with him more next time I am there.
