Tri clamp npt adapter for element.
I am trying to get my boiler ready to go electric. I plan to add Tri clamp ferrules to my boiler to insert my elements. My triclamp adapters are npt threads while the element is nps. The adapter is 304SS. Is it possible to rethread the npt threads to nps? I didn't knowing the metal hardness would matter. I only need like 3 threads to tighten down. Thoughts?

I have a 2" ferrule welded to the keg, and I drilled and tapped a 2" cap to screw the element into.

I'm thinking of doing the same as you Ken, I've read that the beer guys are just using Teflon tape and forcing the threads. I haven't tried it but I've seen a few posts on the beer forums.

Re: Tri clamp npt adapter for element.
do you think I could rethread this adapter from npt to nps? A npt tap is widest at the rear, would using an npt and going all the way though the adapter basically give nps threads or would i need a dedicated nps tap?
Also anyone got a tap this size i could borrow?

Re: Tri clamp npt adapter for element.
My tap came in today. Wasn't hard to re-thread from NPT to NPS, but wasnt easy either. It was a bitch to get started. But worked great. If i had this to do over again i wouldn't. Thea easiest way would to get a tri clamp end cap.
Dill a hole in the middle to pass the element . And secure from the backside with one of these.

The only problem i could see with this is that threads on the element are not long enough to pass through the cap and the nut have enough to tighten down. But im sure that can be worked around.
Thanks guys.

Would it be possible to get a die and rethread the element to NPT?

Re: Tri clamp npt adapter for element.
You could, but you would have to do this to every element you buy. Do it once to you adapter or Tri clamp cap and it's good for life.

I bought the following 2" column to keg kit from MileHi. It was a bit spendy but for me well worth it. The stainless steel Ferrell threads to the keg and the other adapter is copper and solders to the column. (Simple)

That works great to attach the column, but I am talking a out adding a ferrule to the side of the kid to place an element into for electric heating. Gotta love the triclamp.Bushman wrote:I bought the following 2" column to keg kit from MileHi. It was a bit spendy but for me well worth it. Re: Tri clamp npt adapter for element.
I agree that tapping the cap once is the better long term solution, I just figured that NPT dies may be more common and thus easier for some people to source. It's always good to have options.kenfyoozed wrote:You could, but you would have to do this to every element you buy. Do it once to you adapter or Tri clamp cap and it's good for life.

Re: Tri clamp npt adapter for element.
Using a die to rethread the element from nps to npt is a great idea. I just searched for npt dies and they are about the same price as the nps taps. So two ideas to get the same end result, a working electric still. Keep the ideas flowing.
