Can you have too many buckets?

Post by orpheus16 »

Anyone else always seem to need one more bucket than they have?

I am thinking of buying a bunch from a supplier just to have enough to have a couple projects going at once. Of course I also want a couple carboys so I can see things happening, but they are spendy.

Can't ever have enough PET- HDPE buckets or carboys and demijohns!!
I think back at my grandfather and great-grandfather and how the used wooden buckets with steel or iron bands holdin em together.

We sure have come a long way!!!

Space is a problem with me. I have 3 buckets, one carboy, 1 4 gallon ball jar with locking lid and a 2 gallon ball jar with a locking lid. Would like to add at least one 6 gallon carboy!

I found some wire racking that is big enough to hold four 9 gallon fermenter's Then I built a rolling rack of 1.5" sq tubing
that is 3 tiers - the top two tiers are high enough to allow siphoning directly in to the boiler
So I can have 12 going at one time if I desire

Just some cheap hard rubber swivel wheels Makes things move from the fermenting room to the
boiler and back really easy

I have updated this stand since these pics
Now has a cross bar on the open sides and a 1-1/2"
leg between levels

The roller stand on the boiler has been a great back saver

4 x 80L fermenters rounds this lot up, oh and 1 x 25L food grade bottle to carry my water from the mountains in...

Really nice to be able just to siphon into the boiler and if you noticed the bottom of the boiler is valved with
drain hose that somehow lines up just perfectly with the drain line under the sink in the Man Cave.
Grab a gallon or 2 of back set then down the drain with the rest. . .

I really think the guy who designed the Man Cave is a lazy sort of a guy. . . with a bad back :econfused:

I've been looking around on craigslist, hoping to come across some glass carboys that need a good home. I DID find a guy with 500+ food grade 6 gallon buckets. They were originally used to hold pickles, and I was wondering how easy it would be to get rid of the pickle odor, but for the price, it was hard to beat. $1.25 each, or $1.50 if you wanted the lid.

What I really wanted to know was who the hell need 3000+ gallons of pickles!

Hard as hell to remove pickle odor

I have 20 of them sitting in my garage local deli gives them away

I suppose maybe a good soaking in oxi clean could remove the smell

Maybe a pickled liquor?

"Hard as hell to remove pickle odor"
try sodium carb./bicarb and hot water soak
then dry and leave in sun to bleach.

Well Bushman, its the old story - Farmer + Winter + Shop full of tools + Rack full of steel + Time to play = Da Da ! Rolling rack !

If I could only have one I would go for the boiler roller over the fermenter rack myself

Hope this helps
