(PSR-25) does this look right?
I have been reading about these (PSR-25) units and I think this is the correct way to wire up a 220 volt 4500 watt heating element but I want to make sure befor plugging it in (220 volt single phase U.S.A.) I have done a lot of home wireing but nothing quite like this. Does it look right?

I am thinking about doing the same thing. Here is the thread your probably looking for or PM mulekicker.

I read that thread but it was very long and covered so many things that I got confused, I was hoping mulekicker would confirm my wiring diagram.

Thanks for the link Bushman

sorry for the delay.... Yes sir, that is right. In the lounge i have a whole parts list. Make sure you get the right pot for your application. Cheers.

hey Mule kicker... I went to the link in this thread and noticed that you include a phase module and transformer in your build but there isn't one. Also no heat sink. Can you build one to work as shown in this dicussion?

Beelah, I dont know what your asking..... Do you want me to build you a controller? To answer the question, yes. I can build them to work as shown in this discussion.

hey mulekicker i was also wondering this, ive seen the original picture and seems thats what i want for my power control in australia but then i read your post in http://homedistiller.org/forum/viewtopi ... 83&start=0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;" rel="nofollow and wondered why you included the phase angle controller when the original poster didnt have one?
is there something im missing? or is how the orignal post picture in this thead still fine for element control?

Re: (PSR-25) does this look right?
This configuration question keeps arising. I have no doubts that it will work as per the wiring schematic shown in the OP, HOWEVER, I wish to reffer you to the datasheet posted bt MK.
This concurs with the information from United Automation.
In multiphase circuits - and there is not much difference between 3 phase and split single phase - it is recomended that there be a controller in EACH LEG.
You will note that in ALL cases shown on the datasheet one of the supply terminals is shown connected to the Neutral and the other to the Live.
I have not yet found a single manufacturer that recommends connection as shown in the wiring schematic shown at the top of this page. You will have to make up your own minds what to do.

That is the recomended way for a single phase, when the Neutral is at zero volts and the Live is at the supply voltage. These units are intended for single phase opperation.

Re: (PSR-25) does this look right?
The diagram that blue thunder has posted is not 2 PSR25s. The top component is a filter. It is recommended by United automation, but not needed to function correctly. I have built many of the PSR25 builds, and have never used it, and have never had a problem. I have never used more than 1 module on a single phase 220v circuit. It will control current flow from 0 to approx 25A just fine. The only thing you need to remember, is that the leg not controlled by the module will show 115V to neutral, unless you have a switch to completely shut it off. no current is flowing through the element, but there is potentially 115V from that leg to ground/neutral. Hope this helps

so basically just using the psr-25 will work fine but will leave one leg active, so it would be wise to also install a switch that cuts all power when its not in use

yes, or just unplug it.

So with the psr off, the element will or won't be running on 110?MuleKicker wrote:The diagram that blue thunder has posted is not 2 PSR25s. The top component is a filter. There is potentially 110v present at the element, if grounded. But there is no current flowing through the element with the psr off.Getsmokin wrote:So with the psr off, the element will or won't be running on 110?MuleKicker wrote:The diagram that blue thunder has posted is not 2 PSR25s. Thanks, wasn't sure how the elements internals were wired. so by connecting the neutral to the pot you won't be grounding either leg?MuleKicker wrote:There is potentially 110v present at the element, if grounded.
