"Silvery metal" lined copper boiler... Should I...? Or not?

Post by tafinaf »

Scouring eBay for large copper vessels for a new boiler, I found a few but they were all plated with some grey coat inside. I asked the sellers about the stuff but no one could give me a definitive answer. The best was that it was "some silvery metal, perhaps zinc?". I hope it's tin rather than zinc, somehow it seems more likely...

What do you think, should I go for it? This beauty is far too tempting to pass up, but obviously not if I end up having to scrap it. (The picture is also a link to the eBay auction.)

I am of course aware of the risk of that coating containing lead, but let's assume there isn't any, shall we? :ewink:
